Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning in Houston on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon in a motor vehicle, according to the Harris County District Clerkâs Office.
Court records show Harden, 36, was taken into custody at approximately 3:41 a.m. and booked shortly before 5 a.m. Authorities allege that officers found a handgun in plain view inside his vehicle that was not secured in a holster.
Harden was released later that morning after posting a $100 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for June 22 in Harris County. Court documents list Houston as his place of residence.
In a statement, the Cavaliers said they are aware of the incident and are gathering additional information.
âWe are in contact with James and his representation and will continue to monitor developments as they become available,â the team said.
The circumstances surrounding the traffic stop that led to the arrest have not yet been disclosed, and Hardenâs representatives have not publicly commented on the matter.
The 11-time NBA All-Star and former league MVP joined the Cavaliers in February after a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers. He helped lead Cleveland to the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2025-26 season.
