Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the introduction of the iPhone Duo, marking one of the company’s biggest iPhone design changes in years.
The new device features a 7.6-inch inner display that folds into a compact phone with a 5.4-inch outer screen. Apple says that when opened, the Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever made and offers the largest display in the iPhone lineup.
Powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, the iPhone Duo is designed for demanding performance, multitasking and AI-powered features. Its redesigned iOS experience allows users to run apps side by side and use the phone in multiple orientations.
The device also includes a titanium frame and hinge cover, a 48MP dual-camera system and a dual-battery design. Apple says the Duo can provide up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date. Apple is positioning the device as a premium combination of smartphone portability and tablet-style functionality.
The launch also represents a new chapter for Apple under CEO John Ternus, who took over leadership of the company earlier this month.
