Instagram Launches $3.99/Month ‘Instagram Plus’ Subscription Worldwide

June 6, 2026

Instagram has officially launched Instagram Plus, a new premium subscription service priced at $3.99 per month, offering users exclusive features designed to provide greater customization, insights, and control over their experience on the platform.

The optional subscription is rolling out globally and represents Meta’s latest effort to diversify revenue beyond advertising. Instagram emphasized that the platform’s free version will remain available and unchanged for users who choose not to subscribe.

Instagram Plus introduces a range of premium features focused primarily on Stories, profile customization, and audience insights. Subscribers can extend Stories for up to 48 hours, create unlimited custom audience lists, view Story rewatch counts, search viewer lists, and use Story Spotlight to increase the visibility of selected Stories. Additional perks include animated “Super Hearts,” custom app icons, personalized bio fonts, and the ability to pin up to six posts.

The launch comes alongside Meta’s rollout of similar subscription offerings, including Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus, as the company expands its premium services across its family of apps.

While some users have welcomed the additional tools, particularly creators and power users seeking enhanced analytics and customization, the announcement has also generated criticism online. Many social media users questioned the idea of paying for features on a platform that has historically been free, while others expressed concern that future features could eventually become exclusive to paying subscribers.

Meta executives have stated that Instagram Plus is intended to complement, not replace, the existing user experience, and that more premium features are expected to be added over time.

As social media companies increasingly explore subscription-based business models, Instagram Plus could signal a broader shift toward paid premium experiences across major digital platforms.
