Italian Authorities Reportedly Ban Kanye West and Travis Scott Performances Over Security Concerns

May 31, 2026

Italian authorities have reportedly canceled planned July performances by Kanye West and Travis Scott in the northern city of Reggio Emilia, citing public safety, security, and potential protest concerns.

The two artists were scheduled to appear at the Pulse of Gaia Festival at the 103,000-capacity RCF Arena, with Travis Scott set to perform on July 17 and Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, scheduled for the following day. Local officials ultimately blocked both events after reviewing public order and security risks associated with the large-scale gatherings.

According to reports, the decision was made by Reggio Emilia prefect Salvatore Angieri following concerns raised by consumer advocacy group CODACONS and members of the local Jewish community. Officials reportedly cited the risk of demonstrations, crowd management challenges, and the anticipated influx of more than 100,000 spectators within a short period.

Much of the controversy surrounding the proposed events centered on Kanye West, who has faced international backlash in recent years over antisemitic remarks and the use of Nazi-related imagery. Several European appearances connected to the artist have reportedly been canceled, postponed, or restricted in recent months.

Meanwhile, Travis Scott continues to face scrutiny surrounding concert safety following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy in Houston, where 10 people died during a crowd surge. Authorities reportedly considered broader safety concerns tied to hosting both major performances back-to-back.

Neither West, Scott, nor festival organizers immediately issued public statements following reports of the cancellations.

The decision has sparked debate across social media and entertainment circles, with supporters arguing the move prioritizes public safety while critics question whether artists are increasingly facing restrictions based on controversy surrounding their public image and past conduct.
