A man has been charged with first-degree arson in connection with one of the devastating wildfires burning across eastern Washington, Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels announced.
Authorities allege the suspect intentionally started a fire that contributed to the series of wildfires that have scorched parts of Spokane County, destroying homes and other structures while forcing thousands of residents to evacuate.
The arrest comes as firefighters continue working to contain multiple blazes that have left a trail of destruction across the region. Crews remain on the front lines battling challenging conditions, including dry vegetation, high temperatures, and shifting winds.
