A stabbing attack in New York City’s Times Square turned deadly Monday afternoon after a woman armed with two knives allegedly attacked two people before being shot by NYPD officers.
Police said the incident happened in the busy Midtown Manhattan area, where the suspect allegedly stabbed two people during the afternoon.
One of the victims, a woman, died from her injuries. A second victim, a man, was hospitalized and was reported to be in stable condition.
Following the stabbings, officers confronted the woman while she was still armed. Police attempted to stop her before officers opened fire.
The suspect was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding both the stabbing and the police shooting. Investigators are also working to determine what led to the initial confrontation and whether the victims and suspect knew one another.
Officials have not indicated that the attack was connected to terrorism, and the motive remains under investigation.
