Madonna Leads 2026 VMAs With Seven Wins in Major Night of Career Milestones

September 28, 2026

Madonna dominated the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home seven awards and emerging as the most-awarded artist of this year’s ceremony.

The Queen of Pop entered the night with a career-high 11 nominations and 19 competitive VMA wins. Her seven victories added another major chapter to her decades-long relationship with the awards show.

Among Madonna’s wins were Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Dance, Best Long-Form Video, Best Album, Best Cinematography and Best Choreography. Her collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, “Bring Your Love,” was also recognized during the ceremony.

Madonna also opened the 2026 VMAs, marking her first performance at the ceremony in 23 years. Her return brought one of the night’s most anticipated moments as the pop icon took the stage at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater.

Her strong showing came during a particularly significant VMA year. Before the ceremony, Madonna was the most-nominated artist with 11 nods, while Taylor Swift followed with nine.

While Madonna led the night in the number of awards won, Taylor Swift also made VMA history. Swift received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, bringing her career total to 31 and making her the most-awarded artist in VMA history.

Madonna’s seven-award haul further underscores the enduring impact of an artist whose VMA history stretches back decades. She became the first solo female artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 1986 and has continued to collect nominations across multiple generations of music.

The 2026 ceremony also featured performances from Madonna, LISA, RAYE, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims and others, with Snoop Dogg serving as host.
