Atlanta’s First Bike Park Nears Opening, Bringing New Trails and Riding Features to the Westside

October 25, 2026

Atlanta is getting ready to welcome its first dedicated bike park, with a new cycling destination at Shirley C. Franklin Park on the city’s Westside nearing completion. The project is expected to finish its first phase by the end of 2026, giving riders of different ages and skill levels a new place to practice, explore and enjoy the outdoors.

The park’s first phase will feature an asphalt pump track, jump lines, a bicycle playground for beginners and a skills course designed to help cyclists improve their balance, control and confidence. Hiking trails will also be included, creating additional outdoor recreation opportunities for nearby communities.

Located within Atlanta’s largest greenspace, the bike park is designed to welcome everyone from children learning to ride to experienced cyclists looking to sharpen their skills. Its location near the Atlanta Beltline’s Westside Trail will also help connect the destination to the city’s broader network of outdoor paths.

The project broke ground in January 2026 and is being developed through a partnership involving Atlanta Beltline Inc., city parks officials, community partners and private donors. An $8 million contribution from the Chestnut Family Foundation has helped fund the initial phase.

A second phase is planned to add approximately 2.25 miles of mountain bike trails, ranging from beginner-friendly routes to more challenging gravity trails. The expansion will depend on further design work and funding.

Once open, the bike park is expected to expand access to cycling and outdoor recreation across Atlanta, particularly for residents on the Westside who have historically had fewer nearby facilities dedicated to mountain biking.
